Implementing EDC
defining your target audience
On most projects, there are two-three target audience segments. Each segment and groups within each segment have specific and slightly different communication needs. Avoid generic communications! Define your audience and customize your communication approach to give them the information they need.

Implementing an Effective Communication Approach

All project communications should be designed with one of the following communication types in mind.

  • Advertise EDC to build awareness
  • Inform the organization about EDC to develop curiosity
  • Demonstrate specifics to make EDC real
The communication approach should be systematic (e.g. for each target group, the project will focus first on building awareness, then providing relevant information, then demonstrating future state processes in the EDC system). Survival Tip: For all communications, the project should follow a "management first" strategy within the target groups so that management is informed and can prepare for face-to-face communications with their employees.

Facilitating and EDC Demonstration

Craft specific presentations for each target group (e.g. Data Management only hears what is relevant to Data Management) and take those presentations to staff and departmental meetings. The presentation should include:
  • Specifics about what is changing for each target group (the types of activities and tasks that can or will change due to the EDC implementation).
  • Specifics about what is not changing for each target group.
  • Benefits of the change for each target group (opportunity and fixes).
  • A demonstration of the process with the technology.
  • Specifics on where to go for more information.
